Focus Points

Points FAQ

What’s the number found next to member’s names?

Each member has a tally of “points” they’ve earned by making contributions on Focus.

What do “points” signify on Focus?

Points are a reflection of how much the community values your contributions. The points system’s primary purpose is to acknowledge members who are making valuable contributions.

How are points calculated?

Each member gains points by posting quality, insightful, or helpful contributions.

Your fellow community members vote up your contributions. The points system uses these votes as a measure of how valuable you contribution was and correspondingly awards you points. While not exhaustive, here’s a list of actions on your contributions that result in you getting points:

  • Answer voted up or selected as a best answer
  • Post voted up
  • Question voted up

How should I use the up and down vote?

If you find a contribution to be valuable, vote it up. When you do so, your affirmation of the content is shared with the community to assist others in finding quality content.

If you believe the quality  of a contribution negatively impacts the discussion on Focus, vote it down. Simply disagreeing with a contribution should not be cause for voting it down. When you do vote a contribution down, consider providing an explanation. The voting mechanism can be a great way to offer an author feedback on their contribution.

Please follow all Community Guidelines  when voting but plainly stated:

  • focus on quality
  • be mindful of, and disclose, conflicts of interest
  • be respectful
  • accept others’ opinions
  • do not act with spite
