FOCUS BRIEF
Most organizations are like little children – they know the bitter pill will help them get better but they still try to avoid having it till they are forced to. What am I talking about? Project management of course. Quite often, firms avoid adopting project management standards till they have no choice left. That’s because they don’t realize the importance and practical application of project management. Then there is always the fear of supposedly unnecessary overhead.
What most firms don’t realize is that they can create a proper environment, one that allows for a firm to follow standards easily. What every organization must first do is adopt a project management methodology, which will help it deliver quality products and services.
The first step towards applying project management standards is to accept your responsibility as a project manager. A project manager must first assume or at least believe that s/he is responsible for the constraints of scope, time, and cost. Once that is done, you must work on establishing a standard. This will help you get comfortable with your project management methodology.
