First Ebay and now Microsoft. Does Skype just sell itself really well or can a larger company finally monetize it without scaring away users?
Very helpful and a good overview but two posts have some "Quibbles" with this infographic:
Skype Journal: http://skypejournal.com/blog/2011/05/16/skype-history-infographic/
and Voice On The Web: http://voiceontheweb.biz/2011/05/microsoft-acquires-skype-commentary-on-a-sky...
The business case for a MS Skype future seems strong, for several parts of Microsoft's businesses : Windos Mobile will gain market share through mobile skype, windows Live and Messenger can leverage skype's popularity and technology, and integration with Office and MS's UC platform for perhaps the SMB market can be potentially advantages. However, MS's UC and colloboration platform remains to offer unique capabilities and may not necassarily see Skype a great fit in enterprise class organisations (yet).
I found this graphic infomercial very informative for a person who knew nothing about Skype. I am now registered and expect to insist that my business and personal lists all register so we can communicate visually. I am excited about the possibilities for better communication.
Didn't you forget Google Chat, which let you do better quality video chat than skype ?
Very helpful and a good overview. But we must not forget that google is doing something to compete with facebook aquisition. The google IPO for skype is not just $4 billion. its just the approximate..
