The State of the World's Female CEO's

In 2010, only 12 Fortune Global 500 companies were run by women. This is down from 13 in 2009. The Standard and Poor's 500 index is made of 484 male CEOs and 16 female CEOs

Children, children settle down. Both genders are reinforcing the stereotypes of each other. Maybe we can just hope that who ever is best at the job - gets the job - no matter what their gender.

Ah statistics. my favorite lie. Instead of meaningless stats like this, lets compare the number of women who WANT to be CEO with the number who actually are, vs men (you'll probably find it's much much closer).

If you want to be really interesting, lets make judgements on the effectiveness of these women as CEOs, as compared to the men. God knows Carol Bartz has a f***ing mess with Yahoo. I'll short that stock all day long.

Mary, You are a reason why women face such challenges - missing apostrophe, poor grammar, the writing skills of a 5th grader. And on another note women are not a race, they are a gender.

This is great to see that women are closing the gap. We can only hope the trend continues.

To the extent that women are negatively discriminated and this is the cause of a smaller participation and of lower pay, this is certainly a distortion to fight against.
But to some extent the lesser participation and lower pay may come from less women wanting the job and the sacrifices that are implied. Statistics like those above are not able to separate the two cases and they should not be assumed to mean discrimination.
I personally know some great women who are great professionals, at different levels. And I personally know some many great women who made a decision to attribute a lower priority to their professional career than to their personal lives. I was truly sorry to lose a big part of their potential contribution to the business but totally supported and respected their options. I have seen this last case more frequently among women than among men.
