When I first started following the HR industry, I wasn't sure which hashtags and communities to follow. Here's my recommendations to newcomers entering the space… in no particular order, of course.
#HR - That's the obvious one. You'll find everything from job postings to thought leadership pieces to research findings tweeted under this hashtag. Be aware that you'll encounter some spam &/ or international tweets just because of how generic it is.
#TChat - I talked about #TChat in an earlier post, and it's still one of my favorite hashtags to follow. The #TChat hashtag was developed by Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as a branch from their TalentCulture blog. Now it's the stream to follow when talking about talent, company culture and the broad space in between.
#DTHR - Drive Thru HR is a daily online radio show where two of the HR industry's top thought leaders, Bryan Wempen & William Tincup, interview an HR practitioner on what keeps them up at night. Not only is the online show incredibly interesting, but you'll find lots of hidden gems (e.g.: people to follow, solid words of advice, tweetable moments, etc.) when you follow the tweet stream.
#TrenchHR - The #TrenchHR hashtag took me a couple weeks to figure out. In the HR industry, the word trench applies to anyone currently working "in the trenches" of HR. A great stream to follow if you want to hear whats going on with people working on the practitioner side of the space.
#HRHappyHour - #HRHappyHour is the tweet stream covering Steve Boese's weekly online radio show - The HR Happy Hour. Topics include human resources, management, leadership and workforce technology. A great show and stream to follow if you're interested in anything HR and its related technologies.
#TNL - #TNL is the stream for the TalentNetLive Social Recruiting Conference. Great stuff on recruiting and social. Check out their weekly Twitter chat too!
#HREvolution - HREvolution is an incredible conference that brings together HR professionals, recruiters and other business leaders to discuss problems facing businesses today. It's the conference, "where thought leadership and action meet." As you can probably guess, the tweet stream mirrors those insights and values.
#HireFriday - #HireFriday is the brainchild of Margo Rose. A recruiter and an award winning HR blogger, she founded #HireFriday and the #HFChat (#HireFriday Chat) for the sole purpose of helping job seekers in all phases of their career. A great stream to follow if you're looking to hire someone, looking to be hired or if you simply have solid recruiting advice to offer.
#FocusHR – The Focus community is growing strong! Each day there are more and more professionals joining the various HR conversations on the site. I created the #FocusHR hashtag to help capture capture the conversations relevant to the HR Focus community on Twitter.
Other hashtags worth mentioning:
#Workplace – You can actually find a variety of really interesting HR content on this thread.
#Recruiting – Any & everything related to recruiting/ head hunting can be found in this stream.
#WorkLife – Lots of conversations about work/life balance are tagged with this hashtag.
#HRBlogs – Most HR bloggers tag their tweets with this hashtag when promoting a new post.
#SHRM11 – Official hashtag for the upcoming annual SHRM conference. The live event takes place June 26-29 in Las Vegas, so expect to see some awesome tweets then!
#bacon – Many HR professionals have a ridiculous love of bacon. I haven't quite figured out why… apparently it's just, "a thing" in the community. I wouldn't necessarily save this search in TweetDeck but it's a good thing to be aware of, nonetheless. :)
Please feel free to add any other relevant hashtags to the comments section. And if anyone can help figure out the HR connection with bacon, I'd be forever grateful.

Thanks for the information. Good stuff. I've already added many of your suggestions to my Tweetdeck. HRmarketer.com (@hrmarketer) has a database of nearly 1,000 HR conferences and tradeshows in the human resource marketplace and they track all event hashtags. It's a proprietary database but your readership may be interested. Information here: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/5/prweb8445231.htm
