Does your company have a social media policy?

Yes. Ours is an addendum to our internet usage policy and contains 6 bullets. My suggestion is to keep this simple as you can't create a policy for every possible thing that could go wrong. more

What are some key benchmarks for your social media initiatives?

Relevant benchmarks are hard to come by. We measure things on three levels:
Action: How much are we participating (ie Tweets, posts, content share...)
Reaction: How much engagement are we getting (RT, comments, likes...)
Results: Are we impacting the business (Referral traffic, completed forms, leads...) more

What is the best tool to coordinate your postings on the various social media avenues?

For listening/monitoring, I use a combination Google reader, Tweetdeck and Social Radar. I also open the web interface to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn forst thing every morning and try to walk through each site twice a day.

Is 2011 the year for a Social Media budget line item in marketing?

Right now we have mostly activity based metrics for social media and the people who dole out the money (ie CEO, CFO and CMO) work from results based metrics so it will be a long road for social media. more
