Outages happen. The key is how fast the platform and applications can recover from them. And that depends on how they’ve been architected and built.
If the cloud platform is enterprise grade--with inherent fault tolerance and built in disaster recovery--customers won’t be as vulnerable.

What is the difference betweem IaaS and Infrastructure Hosting?

There may be a difference--it depends on how you look at "hosting."
If you were to pit IaaS vs. infrastructure hosting, the "as a service" component of IaaS implies utility billing (you only pay for what you use) and scalable computing resources.

Will tech vendors who do not move to their offerings to the cloud eventually die out?

I agree with Andrew - I don't think ISVs who stay off the cloud are going anywhere in the immediate future, but I do think it's important to consider how the cloud is opening up new markets for these vendors.

Good consideration, Andrew - I appreciate the response. I agree that making use of cloud computing certainly doesn't necessitate moving all operations/IT into the cloud - though that is a possibility, too. Thanks again for your thoughts. more
