KC Mares

KC Mares has been focused on energy efficiency and data centers for over 10
years, building about $8 billion of data centers and operating data centers in over
20 countries. In addition to co-chairing the SVLG Data Center Energy Efficiency
demonstration program, KC Mares leads or has completed data center energy
efficiency programs, site selection and other efforts for Google, Yahoo, Equinix,
Exodus, Facebook, LBNL, US DoE, and many other leaders. He has procured
billions of dollars in data center leases from nearly every major wholesale and
retail provider around the globe. In the last six months he has developed the
design of over 250 MWs of data centers with PUEs below 1.1 and with costs
below $5 million per MW of IT load to build. He is also currently developing a
large data center power park outside of Reno, NV with over 600 MWs of low-cost
on-site power generation.

Recently KC Mares led Yahoo!’s worldwide data center strategy, development
and construction, lowering energy consumption to achieve Yahoo!’s carbon
neutrality. He managed performance-based energy contracts for Johnson
Controls and Honeywell, and developed co-generation and renewable energy
plants.

His work has earned numerous awards, including twice EnergyStar Partner of
the Year. He has crafted legislation for energy solutions and is a pundit of longterm
energy solutions that improve the quality of life, environment and sustained
economic vitality.
