R. Charles (Chuck) Allen is a renewable energy and cleantech consultant working with a variety of companies in this space to help them grow and improve their companies as well as sourcing capital and strategic partners. Having worked as President and CEO of a renewable energy and cleantech company and as an investment banker in this sector, Mr. Allen has extensive experience in virtually every aspect of the sector. He is also a part-time advisor to the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto (www.marsdd.com) working with a variety of cleantech and technology companies. MaRS is an innovation hub that works with early stage cleantech and technology companies; providing them resources – people, programs, physical facilities and networks – to ensure that critical innovation occurs and works the principals to stimulate, identify and harness great ideas and guide the transformation of those ideas into reality.
Mr. Allen is the former President and CEO of Oneworld Energy Inc., a Toronto based international integrated renewable energy company with 3 operating divisions (solar, wind and wind service & maintenance), 10 offices (4 in North America, 4 in Europe and 2 in Asia), 100+ employees and wind energy and solar energy projects in varying stages of development in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. During his 30 months tenure with Oneworld Energy, Mr. Allen grew Oneworld from a small Ontario based wind company with just over $2 million in revenues into an international renewable energy company with over $60 million in revenues. The strategy used was a combination of strategic acquisitions/roll-up and organic growth with over $50 million of that growth coming from organic opportunities.
Mr. Allen’s background is diverse having been both a senior executive, investment banker and finance/M&A lawyer and having successfully managed a variety of corporations in a number of sectors (energy/cleantech, technology, oil and gas, environmental, mining, technology and chemical powders) and having worked in both a finance and operational capacity with most of the organizations that he has been involved with. Mr. Allen has successfully grown most business that he has been involved in as a senior manager including a number of “turn-arounds” and a number where he joined organizations with very little in the way of revenues. Mr. Allen originally practiced law in the areas of corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions before taking on various management roles. Mr. Allen has been involved in more than $5 billion of equity, debt and M&A transactions. He has been a Board member of a number of public companies including Endeavour Resources Ltd., Cubacan Exploration Inc., Fibre-Klad Ltd. and Oneworld.
Prior to joining Oneworld, Mr. Allen worked as an investment banker with M Partners creating opportunities in the renewable energy/cleantech and technology sectors where Mr. Allen created a pipeline of over $100 million of opportunities in less than 12 months.
Prior to M Partners, Mr. Allen ran a gold mining company with producing assets in Africa, over 1000 employees and revenues of $15 million (gold was $400/oz) – using cash flow to strategically expand corporate operations, Mr. Allen was able to increase revenues over 100% from the time when Mr. Allen started in that role.
Mr. Allen has worked internationally including Central, Eastern and Western Europe, Canada and the U.S., Africa, Caribbean and central and South America in a variety of senior management roles and in a number of sectors.
Mr. Allen received his L.L.B. and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta.
