What steps do you take to build trust in a team?

This may sound too "blue collar" for some, but to build trust I do the following:
1. Work shifts in every portion of the company.
2. Learn about their challenges
3. Network with them as possible connections for future projects

I can agree with that. The issue is though is that community behavior defines how a social tool will be used.
