When you say Microsoft ERP, what specifically are you talking about? Microsoft offers 4 different Dynamics ERP products. Dynamics GP, formerly Great Plains, Dynamics SL, formerly Solomon, Dynamics NAV, formerly Navision and Dynamics AX, formerly Axapta. The products have their own histories and life cycles and there are advantages and weaknesses in each. I have a couple of documents that break them down, if that would be helpful.
Our company has successfully implemented many Microsoft ERP solutions for various manufacturing companies worldwide. We were recently awarded the 2009 Microsoft’s Partner of the Year. I would be more than happy to provide you a list of references for you. Andrew Albers – aalbers@hitachiconsulting.com. Please shoot me an email.
Thanks Eric. We are looking into Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
Anthony,
As noted below, the following information may be dated, but when I last looked at MS NAV, it was strong on capturing/displaying information and weak on automation. If you wanted to automate anything, you had to code it by hand and this made the system hard to maintain compared to more recent rivals if you wanted automation.
Integration with other MS products was very tight -if- you kept everyone up to date on the same release. Basically, the entire company had to be kept in sync and the ERP system, Outlook, Excel, Exchange, etc had to be updated at the same time. This is a blessing and a curse compared to the looser integration provided by non-MS products.
Eric,
Please could you send a copy of your analysis to Simon.Gantley1@gmail.com. I last looked MS ERP a few years ago and while I have kept up to date on the capabilities of MS CRM, I could do with a refresher on NAV and the others.
Thanks, Simon
Anthony,
One of the biggest strengths of Microsoft Dynamics products overall is the breadth and depth of the partner channel. When we work with a client in the ERP Review and Selection process, Microsoft is heavily weighted for its partner culture. There are many solutions and options available that can help make a vanilla system "uniquely yours".
I would be happy to discuss further if youre interested.
