They most certainly are!
At this roundtable, we’re focusing on ERP, but the principles and strategies we discuss can and should certainly be applied to other types of enterprise software investments.
That said, problems with other software deployments (like BPM, CRM, ECM, and others) generally won’t have quite the level of impact on an organization that ERP failure will. For this reason, ERP deployments require specific care and heightened attention to detail.
I would suggest that they are, but cost, size, complexity, and risk of the software solution needs to be taken into account as performing proper evaluation and due diligence for an ERP system can be very time consuming.
Having said that, there are always some key things to consider when evaluating an enterprise software solution including, to name just a few, and in no particular order:
* Get all key stakeholders functions and levels involved at the appropriate times
* Secure Executive management commitment and sponsorship
* Properly define the project objectives, goals, requirements, etc.
* Ensure that all required key functionality is demonstrated to your satisfaction
* Communication to all relevant stake-holders
* Ensure that enough and the right resources are assigned to the project
* Perform sufficient due diligence
