Hi Dan, I will say from my personal experience that Dell's equipment was solid. I was the second owner (post refurb) of a Dell Inspiron laptop, and bought it some time around 2004. I just retired that machine last summer (6 years from a refurbished laptop!) and had such a good experience that I bought another notebook from Dell. 6 months in, and it's been a dream. That being said, I haven't worked with HP equipment so I can't answer the question fairly. However, there are similar conversations on Focus that you can reference at these links:
