Are there risks associated with free VPN software?

I've been tempted by several free VPN software deals but am wondering if they're safe? Anyone have any experience with free VPN software?

Any implementation of the VPN software (be it freeware / open source /commercial) security lies in the way it is deployed and configured. Since most of the "free" VPN depends on SSL/TLS, it is fair to say good about their safety.

My 2 cents:
I would recommend to check out the "free" clause in the free VPN service providers. Some start as a free service (restrictions in number of peers, traffic limit, speed limit, service limit etc,.) and once they have reached a certain milestones such as user base size, convert the service as paid / pre-paid commercial.

I have tried Ultra VPN and found it to fine for normal browsing and file sharing. Have not extensively used it.

Care to try for any open source VPN app? Though it requires some configuration and setup from every one whomsoever uses it!

Since open source VPN undergoes multiple peer reviews by security professionals, it could be as safe any commercial counterparts!!
