For B2B social media, are you or your company using Ning?

I hear all this talk about LinkedIn, Facebook, Focus, and Twitter for B2B social media engagement, but has anyone found Ning to be effective for promoting and engaging in conversation? What are your thoughts on Ning?

Hey Colin,

It depends on which Ning community you belong to. From my understanding, Ning isn't a single community, but a nest of multiple communities. I belong to a couple of different communities within Ning and I found them useful for promoting my business and engaging in conversation, but sometimes I feel like the number of members within each community is exaggerated...either that or the community isn't as active given the amount of users. I think Ning could be more effective if they reinstated their search communities tool because I'm finding it more difficult to find quality Ning communities. I personally, think one should stick with the other social networking sites you mentioned above, but I think Ning is a great second or third option. Just my thoughts...

Cheers!
Lucas

Colin,

I know B2C companies have been doing some successful targeted advertising and community engagement programs over at Ning. I haven't heard much about B2B advertising, primarily because most of the folks I work with haven't mentioned Ning in a business context. I would be very interested to know if anybody in the Focus community is using Ning to engage their B2B customers.

Also, if you haven't seen it, it looks like changes are afoot over at Ning. http://digital.venturebeat.com/2010/04/15/ning-restructuring/.
