Can CA acquire its way into cloud management market leadership?
Since mid-2009, CA (the former Computer Associates) has acquired data center automation assets and expertise from Cassatt, as well as the companies NetQoS (network performance management and service delivery management solutions) and Oblicore (IT service level management software). This week, CA announced plans to buy 3Tera, a pioneering provider of solutions for building and deploying cloud-based services. CA is clearly positioning itself as a "one-stop shop" for solutions to manage both cloud-based and premise-based IT infrastructures. But CA faces a growing range of competitors, particularly where cloud-based infrastructure management is concerned. And CA has a long and decidedly uneven history of successfully integrating and leveraging acquired companies, their people and assets. So can CA extend its leadership in premise-based IT management into the cloud successfully? Why or why not?

I do not believe they can, CA has not really entered the big boy arena till recently. They are now stepping up to companies that are doing this in tandum with other companies. These partnerships have alot of money that CA doesn't have. Cisco and EMC/VM Ware, Cisco and Microsoft, Nortel/Lucent and Sun, when you try to step to companies that have billions in there war chests and you come out with a wimpy little dagger you might stab me once or twice and it may hurt, but there is no david and goliath in this tale. They entered the arena with companies that have been powering the datacenter for years, they have quick funds and can aquire your competitors so you are now mono-y-mono. You have to have the years of experience with service to be able to deliver. Then add IBM Global Services into the mix from the implementation standpoint and you basically became a me too with a soft platform. When you do alittle sorting you come up with two huge contenders; Google and Microsoft from the Cloud space, good luck CA We will see you at your funereal.

CA formerly Computer Associates, we thought we were ready to step into the enterprise then Microsoft and Google took our wind from our sale, Cisco Systems Torpedo the port side, Nortel and Lucent shot some cannons' from the rear and IBM Global Services/Lenovo popped out of the water like Godzilla and ate the aft of our ragged vessel, what was left was then destroyed by the up and coming typhoon named HP.
