Can someone help explain to me the difference between Urchin vs Google Analytics web reporting?
I'm quickly trying to pull together some metrics for a meeting with potential funders. I clearly need some traffic numbers and details. I've heard about Google Analytics, but someone mentioned Urchin to me. When I did research, it seems like Urchin is owned by Google too. What's the difference? Is one better than another? Getting some mixed messages.

Google bought Urchin and then turned it into Google Analytics. As far as I know, Urchin has not been around for several years now.

Google purchased Urchin in 2005. It is now available for free as Google Analytics, www.google.com/analytics/
Google Analytics tracks traffic on your website through a javascript tag (a small bit of code) that you copy and paste into each page of your website. If the code was not there, you will not be able to get historical traffic. It only tracks traffic in real time as it's happening.
You should still be able to pull historical traffic stats from your web server log if you did not have any tracking code installed before today. Check with your web hosting service provider to see if they have this information available to you.
