Here is a basic summary of where we are now:
The two sides disagree on a number of issues (especially player revenue shares and regular season game extension) that has prevented a new collective bargaining agreement. The players decertified their union to allow possible litigation against the NFL and owners, and in retaliation the NFL and owners have locked out the players for the 2011 season. I believe the players appeal hearing to the lockout is tomorrow.
Again, this is just a very basic summary. You can find full details at NFLLockout.com.

It can be accessed via http://tiny.cc/SMinOrgsNFLpost1. It will be interesting to see what role social media plays as this saga continues, especially if the fans and other stakeholders decide to leverage it in strategic ways.
