Can there be a great and productive working relationship between advisors and startups?

Over the last few years, I am seeing more and more startups frown on working relationships with advisors, claiming that the relationship is non-commital, un-productive and frankly that they want all involved parties to be hired by the company and 100% committed and involved on the fringes. This makes it difficult to collaborate with high tech startups effectively. They love your expertise but dont want to have you as part of the family. What are your thoughts?
