Yes and no - using multiple social media opens you up to multiple sources of information and interactivity, but it also makes you exponentially more susceptible to missing out on a certain level of potential involvement with each individual media. You simply can't "be" everywhere at once, so you end up only being partially "there" (and therefore only partially involved) with any one media.
That being said, each social media plays a specific and (for the most part) unique roll in the world of social networking, so it is important to utilize a number of the right social media - based on the target you're attempting to reach.
Can you clarify what you mean by doing "too much social media?" Do you mean being a part of "too many" communities and SM networks or just participating "too much?"
