Cloud storage versus on-site servers?
Aside from overall costs, what are the cost/benefits of cloud storage versus on site storage options? If I choose to switch vendors, what happens to my data? Is one type of storage better larger companies?

Caty,
Using cloud storage should provide you with the capability to flex your requirements up and down quickly without the need for going through a hardware procurement cycle. Cloud storage should also enable you to drive different strategies for storing and archiving data based on your business requirements. Whilst this can be done on site you won't be leveraging services such as off-site storage etc. so your complexity would increase. Cloud storage also has benefits for business continuity as you can stipulate
the levels of mirroring and back up as part of your overall package. If you have in house storage today you could use the cloud as your back up and archive service.
The flip side of all this is around your Data Communications infrastructure which will need to have the necessary bandwidth available to maintain performance levels. You could look at the current range of devices that will provide WAN acceleration but inevitably there will be some additional costs involved whichever way you look at it

Our office provides a secondary option to eliminate bandwidth limitations that may delay the backup and recovery process. For more information contact or visit us at www.carrott.com. Also Cloud can be very beneficial so long as you control the full production cycle of your intellectual property.
