A business colleague recommended that I lease computers for my sales teams. What are the pros and cons of computer leasing?

This is very dependent on your business requirements. We looked into leasing and found that you end up paying much more than buying an entry level computer and maintaining it with an existing support department. If we had no support mechanism, it'd be much more tempting.
The other issue is the ownership of the medium where your IP is stored needs to be very clearly spelled out.
I agree with Karl Geppert, it depends. The only absolute is, there are no absolutes. What are your requirements, resources and goals? Not all business needs are the same and certainly not all IT support departments are equal. The right lease could be the most cost effective but the common denominator is time. I am seeing companies that have sold IT assets and then leased them back including support. After the cost savings have been realized short term 1-3 years, execs have received their bonus' and moved on. Now the service "glitches" that just needed to be worked out early on in the cut over still exist and may be growing. When the pain persists long enough, what are the costs involved in virtually starting from scratch. I am seeing this happen. Erik, since you are in telecommunication sales, is this questions meant to probe or is your business considering leasing?
