With the "death of RSS" how and where are you reading content?

At a recent New York event, the focus was on how web-based content is giving way to app-based content. What are you using - apps or RSS readers or web-based products - and what are your views of the future of media consumption? Disclosure: for a potential post on my blog, and working with a company that has an OS-based app.

Are people really going to go and give up computer feeds for mobile apps? While there are plenty of good mobile news apps out there they don't do what RSS is meant for; a way to aggregate your information into a simple way to read it. There is a reason your feed is in my Reader, I want to hear what you are writing about.
Mobile apps are great, even mobile RSS readers, but they all have their limitations. My main reason for even writing this is because of the limitations my Pulse reader has. It looks great on paper but it's clumsy, I keep hitting a link to a main page.. All because my iPhone's screen isn't large enough.
iPad apps like the Daily or reading the WSJ are a different story due to the size of the iPad but they still are giving you their content, not what you decide.
All in all, mobile apps are great but I am not going to fill up my home screen with them. For now, Im sticking with Google Reader.

I agree with Andrew on this one in many respects, I think RSS is here for a while and it's still part of my daily routine. I think this conversation will take off when aggregation services or apps can come up with decent algorithms to serve you information that you are actually interested in without being source dependent. StumbleUpon is the closest thing I can think of that could some day replace my RSS but it takes months of stumbling through sites that you aren't interested in for it to learn your tastes. As of now I haven't found an app or site that delivers exactly what I am looking for and then some. If for some reason RSS was completely gone I think i would rely on a combination of TechMeme and StumbleUpon to get up top date on my interests.

Since you both work at Focus - fix this issue: no reply button. So instead of a threaded conversation, it looks like crap.

You're both missing key points, though: first, I never said mobile. And while the panel noted the iPad, nobody would consider that a smartphone or small screen.

Second, RSS has never taken off with mainstream consumers.

Ok then, with that in mind. I am still going to use Google Reader, I dont need an app to replace a web page.
