Looking at my most recent 5 years of experience and talking with PM colleagues, I would have to say that the contract-PM is still the major play. Back of the napkin numbers here....
- 15 Companies (Pharma, Finance, Manufacturing, Health Care, Utilities, Software...not all me, some colleagues)
- Roughly 5-10 PMs at each, I will run with 8 - that is 120 PMs
- Feedback/Experience shows 1-2 PMs are FTEs, I will go easy and use 2
- 6 out of 8 PMs are contractors or 75%
I hope they continue contracting out side help. It will make my life better. After taking some time to help our daughter launch a new business, I’m now looking for a new consulting gig; therefore, if you know of something, let’s talk. I will consider short term, part-time or long term assignments where my varied experience can be effectively utilized. Travel is generally not a problem, and I will accept projects anywhere in the world.
My experience includes time spent in the corporate world where I held several key management positions including: Process Engineer Leader, General Management, IT Director, and Manufacturing Operations Manager. For 20 years, I owned a small boutique consulting firm, but don’t let the size fool you; it was by design. I led a team of talented professionals specializing in General Management, IT, BPI, Re-engineering, and Project Management for a wide array of industries and organizations.
My career and reputation were built on the ability to come into various (often troubled) situations and quickly define the problems and opportunities; then become a change agent leading organizations to new levels of technology, information utilization, and process improvements. I have a proven track record in successfully leading projects in high growth, complex, fast paced environments, and I understand the meaning of bringing successful projects in on time and within budget. My ability to effectively communicate with individuals from senior management to floor personnel has been instrumental in getting everyone’s buy in and acceptance of change and their support and use of new processes and technology. Combining a logical “hands-on” no-nonsense approach and real-life experiences with cutting edge technology, my methodology is easily adapted to any situation across a diverse range of industries. My unique experience and background as user as well as designer of new systems and processes gives me insight and understanding rarely found in a single individual. My logical thinking and methodology brings sharpness of focus and expertise to bear upon a client’s unique and complex problems and create the appropriate culture and working practices required in today’s competitive environment.
