Absolutely.
The usefulness of ERP and other business software depends on a business' ability to incorporate the software into enhanced business processes. If the users aren't willing to change the way they work, the software investment will prove to be a huge waste (read: failure).
Regardless of a company's size, implementation success depends on a company's ability to use the software to improve upon the old ways of doing business. From the users' perspective, this usually means redefining the way they go about their daily tasks.
Change management requires much more than the mere learning of new software. It usually involves skills redefinition, training and, often times, restructured reporting lines.
I've written two implementation tips on change management, including the keys to developing an effective change management plan. These tips are based on our firm's ERP implementation methodology that is used in more than 40 countries.
1) The first tip discusses change resistors and change management in general: http://www.pemeco.com/v1000/resources_center/erp-implementation-tip-14-change...
2) The second lays out the six critical elements of an effective change management plan: http://www.pemeco.com/v1000/resources_center/erp-implementation-tip-15-change...
Remember: every company - from the smallest to the largest - needs to effectively manage change to deliver a successful project.
