Do you agree that start ups should hire fast and fire fast?

Most start ups and for that matter companies in general hire slowly and fire slowly. Should start ups increase their hiring/firing cadence and if so why?

I think a hire fast fire fast culture is redundant and more expensive. Hire right and you will reap the benefits and savings even in a start up environment. Fire fast only if it becomes blatantly obvious there are insurmountable obstacles. By simply acknowledging team members for their contributions and letting their true talents shine, I have watched even challenging cases rise to become valuable human capital assets.

l dont agree that,in my openion if i want to hire someone i ll choose someone in months to stay, not in 2 days to leave in month, regarding the fire, i must prepare to fill the vaccant beforn the vacancy happend,so its complicated process and slow the work, i think knowing the team its more better than hire & fire

That's not my experience - I've worked for a number of start ups in my career and while "hire slowly" is often the case, "fire slowly" is usually not - if someone's obviously a bad fit or incapable of doing the job, there's never enough capacity to carry them - so they tend to get chucked out if there's even a modicum of doubt about their abilties.

In stable companies - "fire slowly" makes sense, the investment in recruitment and training means that you should take your time to work with an individual to help them fit the role. Otherwise you're writing off a lot of time and money for no real reason.
