Do you plan your virtual events around live events?

I read an article saying that virtual events tend to do better when paired with a live event. Has this been your experience? Why do you think that is, or isn't, true?

Hi Allen, I think this is overly simplistic way to look at virtual events. While a virtual event definitely augments a live event, don't consider it as an either/or option.

Rather, look at virtual as part of your larger marketing and events strategy. I wrote this post, "Going Virtual Isn't Necessarily the Answer to Replacing Your Virtual Events", that I think is still relevant today (http://www.prmeetsmarketing.com/2009/02/10/going-virtual-isnt-necessarily-the...). Key questions to ask yourself are:

1) What is the objective of your event or marketng program?
2) How technically savvy is your audience?
3) Does your audience prefer in person, virtual or both?
4) When to consider hybrid?
5) If you go virtual, then what tools do you use?

Also, you may want to check out the Virtual Edge Summit 2011 from January 12-13, 2011. The event will be held in Las Vegas or virtual. To attend virtually is free and here is a link to get $120 off the in-person event: http://www.virtualedgesummit.com/registration_reader/

Good luck with your program,
Cece
