Do you see Social and Mobile overlapping?

Or do they exist in a combined way?

I don't think its a matter of overlap.
Instead I think its more of an intersection.

Social is something you do on the network, between people, places and things.
Being mobile, is a style of use and accessibility.

Example:
participating on twitter and posting tweets or broadcasting your location via FourSquare is a social element.

Accessing Twitter via your mobile phone, or from a public computer, on your computer from an airport a train, or from your computer at your home is a degree of mobility, thus access.

Don't see real overlapping. Bob is right, probably the question has been wrongly stated.

I believe mobility is going to be an additional benefit to social networking as posters will be able to interact almost in real-time.

This might be the next challenge for social networking, as it' going to require more responsiveness to user posts, providing a level of service similar to IM.
This is probably going to prove disruptive for productivity in the short term, at least until companies learn how to use Social Networking to their advantage.

Yes, it's already begun. Facebook and Twitter have had mobile apps for a long time. LinkedIn just got theirs.

Then there are all sorts of creative app platforms like StickyBits (scan a barcode, win things, and discuss a brand), Moodstocks (based on image recognition technology), and finally Aisle411 (shopping gps, discussion, coupons, etc.)
