Do you think Amazon's new $199 tablet will hurt sales of the Apple iPad?
Many people are already calling the just-announced Amazon tablet an "iPad killer" - due to its low price of $199. http://nyti.ms/oc1lg3 Do you agree that this 'poor man's' tablet will hurt sales of the iPad?

Nope. If you read the reviews, it's a very different type of device. The best description I read is that the Amazon tablet is designed to "consume content" rather than also "create it". That's a VERY big difference.
That doesnt mean Amazon won't come up with a higher end product later, but for now, I just don't see it. It might hurt Nook sales, but it mostly seems made for Amazon-ians.
I do not think so. The tablet market is new and not even close to saturation. There are a lot of people who are would like to have a tablet but cannot afford an iPad or just cannot see shelling out that kind of money (that's me!). Personally, I would like a tablet but the iPad has been well out of my price range. But, I am looking at the Kindle Fire.
The recent run on the low priced HP Touchpad show there is a market for a less costly alternative. Amazon and Apple do have one thing in common, both have ready to use content for their tablets and that may give Amazon an advantage over other low cost players.
It will take some IPAD market, but not much only because of its cost. Apple has a few advantages over other tablet makers: a very loyal following, a lot of content through itunes, a standard development platform, the ability to plug in devices such as a keyboard, a larger screen, and a management team that is very aggressive in this space. Other tablet makers will take a bigger hit.
