Does anybody still go to live tradeshows?
With virtual trade shows today, I do not see the need to have a live trade show. What are the benefits of live trade shows over virtual ones? Why would you choose to host or go to a live trade show over a virtual one?

Hi Pam,
It's not about an either/or situation. Rather it depends on your strategy. Here is a post that I wrote last February that is still relevant today: http://www.prmeetsmarketing.com/2009/02/10/going-virtual-isnt-necessarily-the...
Briefly, there are five considerations:
1) What is your objective?
2) Is your audience technically savvy enough for virtual?
3) Does your audience prefer in-person, virtual or both
4) What about a hybrid approach?
5) Who to use if you go virtual?
Hope this helps and let me know if there are any other questions,
Cece
Pamela: Tradeshows are huge! We went to TechCrunchDisrupt.com, SF, two weeks ago. 130 plus new, soon to launch, internet start ups were competing for bragging rites and $50,000. All there to see and be seen by the International Tech Press and investors.
Shows are great to see and seen by your peers, customers or go to a show where they are a niche to sell too, not your competition.

John
Check out this new Social Commerce site I am involved with, launching this month. www.eahoy.com, pretty fun stuff!
Simple human contact sounds like a real good reason for a live trade show. Yes, I can show you what my company does on line and, if I really wanted to, could do all our business without ever meeting you face to face. However, and this might be an age thing, I am not comfortable doing anything which is going to affect my clients' mission critical systems without regular face to face meetings. Similarly, I am not going to tie my company's future to another company's product without serious face time.
