Does marketing software actually work?
I’ve seen some marketing software that advertises to manage everything from brands to events to workflow and projects. Do you think these types of software are useful, or are they just a waste of time? It’s one thing to have a marketing automation solution, but to implement a bigger system? Is that really necessary? What are your thoughts?

Marketing automation software like Marketo, Eloqua, Silverpop or Genius.com is very useful -- with very big IFs.
If you've developed comprehensive buyer personas
If you've got a strong value proposition.
If you've got a clear Ideal Customer Profile
If you're doing Content Marketing
If you've mapped lead nurturing around the buying process
If you are scoring your leads
If you are working closely with sales
If you have all those "Ifs," you'll find great value in marketing automation software.
Hope that helps, Rick.

To expand on Jeff's list and some of his would be included is if you have developed a Lead Management Framwork(TM) that accounts for the following processes between marketing and sales:
- Data
- Lead Planning
- Lead Routing
- Lead Qualification
- Lead Nurturing
- Metrics
Developing the right process and having the right skill set within your people are key to succeeding with marketing software.
