Does my server need a monitor?
The servers at my company currently run in "headless" mode, but our new IT director thinks we should have a monitor attached. Why would our servers need a monitor? What benefits does a monitor add?

A monitor will help you to get Crash/Blue Screen information, and other boot time display info, but otherwise doesn't provide an irreplaceable value.
You can use RDP for Windows servers, MSTSC with the /console switch to remote control the server console even if 'headless' with no monitor.
Even better a few major server brands include remote console access, like the HP(Compaq) RILO, I think Dell has the DRAC, and even IP based KVM switches, so you can access a virtual monitor from across the network without needing to be physically in front of a real monitor.
