Is exclusively original content a winning Twitter marketing strategy for small business?

It seems that Twitter is increasingly dominated by what I consider to be 'SPAM' accounts linked to various RSS feeds. These feeds tend to have many times more followers than accounts providing exclusively original high quality content and commentary. Obviously some @, retweet and # participation is necessary, and the quality of followers should be taken into consideration, but is it a mistake to limit the majority of links to your own articles, blogs, etc?

Our approach is to retweet the good posts we come across as well as writing original content. It has worked well for us. I believe it shows that we are not only in tune with what matters in our industry, but are willing to be a voice to the masses. Original content helps build credibility and a solid following in my opinion,

Unless you produce multiple blog posts or pieces of content per day it would be very hard to employ an exclusive original content strategy. And just talking about ourselves all day with no links to articles shouldn't count as original content ;). So you have to share more than just your own content.

What you call the "commentary" is probably the most valuable action on Twitter. That's what builds connections and shows depth and expertise beyond just sharing information. It is the most effective way to engage on Twitter.
