Great tools when considering search engine optimization allowing quick and easy submission to social and content-sharing websites. The underlying philosophy is to post a snippet of your content on other relevant sites but just enough info to entice other readers to click back to your site for the full content.
One suggestion, keep them reasonable size and out of the way so not to overwhelm or overpower your content. Remember, those are just tools and your content needs to remain prevalent.

I found sharethis to be buggy and addthis to not be buggy. Both services are incredible similar.
