Despite the mystique some users - and the media - bestow upon it, Facebook is only a website, and any website can be hacked or shut down with concerted and persistent effort. Any defensive wall built by human beings can be broken down by other human beings, whether made from stone or zeroes and ones. Some examples of supposedly "secure" sites hacked in the past: D.O.D., NASA, Microsoft, NY Times Intranet, FBI, CIA, Yahoo!, Bank of America, Citigroup, Cingular, the U.S. Army, the White House, and even the sites of online Internet security firms, such as Norton.
