Hi,
If you know all the metrics (financial, operational, strategic) that have to be involved and represented in your Dashboard, you are at the next step - to actualy make a dashboard.
As I see it, that is very important and often neglected step. All previous job of integrating data, collecting data etc. can be in vain if your data representation is poorly made.
First make sure that every metric has it's context. For example, include MTD, YTD, LY YTD calculations, budget value, forecast value, show past 12 months trend, show indexes (this year vs last year for example).
Second, show all that metrics in appropriate manner, use bullet graphs, use moderate colors and only emphasize on problems (with some sort of alert). That way you can provide to end user a ton of information that will be easy to read on small space.
