Google + is more of a platform which allows us to bring social elements into all the services and products that we offer. So you have seen YouTube come into Google+; you’ve seen Google+ with ‘direct connect’ go into our search business. Google + is trying to make sure use of social signals across all of products. It’s not just about getting people together on one site and calling it a social network. Back to the reason,Why Business Pages are important. Well, from my theoretical stand point, if Google enable every company to do this and direct connect searches for your restaurants and shops to there Google + pages this could squeeze out companies like Yelp and Facebook from the rating and page hosting business. It a lot simpler for people to go +KFC and go straight to Google plus Page and see whats going on at the local KFC restaurant.
For me it is better going Google search-search for KFC and then read the blue links and clicking on the blue link and loading up the page. The above scenario presume that eventually Google will provide a way to create sub pages for a page, so that a chain of restaurants can have a brand page and then a page for each restaurant. An that Google Direct will be able to detect your location and direct you to the most relevant page and this to me is important.
Google providing information directly to customers is already being debated but essentially what they argue is that Google, given is size and dominance in search, should not be allowed to give consumer answers directly as this freezes out sites and can be viewed as anti competitive. Some say that Google search should be separated from all of Google other services which to me sound awful. You cannot tell me to separate my car with my bike. Both are mine.
To be frank, legal experts with lot more knowledge than me can talk about any legal issues Google could face with this feature. There is also the apparent issues about using your dominance in one industry to expand your business into another industry. The real revolution here was hidden within that announcement about Google+ pages and that was Direct Connect which will take you straight to the company Google+ page. All of the major brands will work and its times open their Google + pages although once it applies to any of Google+ business pages then there may be anti trust issues.
The problem with Google + is that of the 90 million accounts opened so far, only half are classed as "active". i.e. the other half were accounts that were opened on a whim, out of curiousity, the passwords forgotten and just generally left in limbo. The remaining 45 million active accounts there is 50% daily engagement. I'm a Google+ user on the basis I have Google email and I just had to click a box to get an account. I have about 500 contacts and I have no idea what to do with Google+ apart from posting my blogs, sharing pictures and posting my opinion. I do not know if I count as one of the 90 million plus users. I'm not kicking Google+ but I use Facebook to see my friends holiday photos and have gmail for communication and sometimes I wonder what is Google+ for.
I'm one of the '90 million' and the truth is the majority with accounts do not use it. 90million after just six months is quite a feat and it will be interesting to see if Google can keep the momentum going in 2012. I despise Facebook’s interface and do hope Google+ can give it a good run for its money. G+ is a million times better in every single dept. Whilst there are 90 million accounts I would wager a bet that only 20 % are actively used at the moment. I do like the way it can be easily integrated in to my Youtube account and I see G+ and Youtube as a perfect match. Combine with the very easy to handle Twitter and thats all one needs. You can really reach the people you want to with those three. Conclusion is that I recommend companies to open Google+ accounts.
Yes, I already set-up several G+ business pages:
