Have online networking tools diminished the importance of traditional methods?

Great question, Nicholas - thanks for asking! I don't think it has - actually, quite the contrary. Traditionally, we were limited by things such as "accepted business hours" - just limited by time to get it all done. With things just like this... Focus Media's Q&A landing page - we can retain the opportunity to network when schedule permits. Also, while we have to be careful to remember to extend our online conversation OFFline w/ a call or visit - social networking tools have greatly expanded our reach in who we're able to meet.

I don't think online tools have diminished traditional methods, just enhanced them. Consider someone who lives in a small town who doesn't have a networking group that will help him connect to the people he wants to connect to. Or someone (like me) who has few local clients and more around the country. Online networking helps them.

But every time I go to a conference, I'm overwhelmed with what an hour of face-to-face time can do!
