That's a very good question. One of the things I've experienced with companies is that they don't have any context to know where they are -- are they at the very beginning stages of doing social media? or are they very mature in their delivery. I've creates a social media maturity assessment that I take companies through. So that's one way... but what is unclear in the general literature is what the criteria for doing social media well and what does it look like when it isn't done well. That is prompting me to write a blog post about this!

When companies get that social media is not a channel for marketing - sending out messages to customers. Also when companies get that social media is not a channel for customer service.

When they get that social media is all about being social. Thats right. It is about conversation. It is about contribution.
