Hi Randy,
One approach I have used to increasing website traffic is creating curated online communities through having meaningful conversations and building relationships via social media. I work for a business consulting firm called Tekara Organizational Effectiveness and we have been able to increase our monthly unique visitors and pageviews both by over 50% in 6 months by building these types of communities using facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin, as well as beginning a thought leadership blog on our site to illustrate credibility/competence. We were able to measure this through google analytics and noted that our top five referrers of traffic have become social networking sites.
In other words, if you are able to find your target market, or the people who are interested in the space that you operate within, reach out and have meaningful conversations with them, and overtime build a relationship- they will be much more likely to be "pulled" back to your site to learn more about you and what you do!
