How can I measure success on my social media sites?
What types of things should I look for? The amount of comments, etc.? Are there metrics I can/should look at?

Hi Jessica: There are a lot of companies with new Social Analytic tools right now similar to Google Analytics. Tweetbrain, Looxii, Trackur, Kontagent and Twittruth are all proprietary Tools used for measuring Social Media Campaigns.
I also suggest using a service that aggregates or integrates multiple social mediums like Ping.Fm or Posterous to launch multiple campaigns across platforms. These have some decent features for measuring success.

Hi Jessica
Obviously a few months late in answering this questions but its important to do so.
Firstly you need to decide what your goal is to understand what you need to measure.
If for instance you want to track traffic generated from social networking back to your website then you might use trackable short urls and google analytics
If you want to measure engagement and other basic social media stats I like to use http://twitalyzer.com/, pay for it, its good.
So by understanding why your using social networks and what you want to achieve you can decide what you need to measure to define your success
