How can you cancel an "unqualified" appointment in a gracious manner?

I've set a couple of follow up appointments this week, but after doing some company research I've figured out that they're totally unqualified and I really shouldn't waste my time talking with them. Is there a gracious way to back out of these appointments? How do you tell someone, nicely, that they're not worth your time?

Honesty is always the best policy. Call the contact and let them know that after doing some follow up research you don't think you can help them and don't want to take up their time. You don't have to tell them that it would be a waste of your time. However, if you don't think you can help them, tell them.

Then, in the future, do more research before setting appointments. You'll avoid wasting your time at the onset.
