Hi, I'm looking for advice, ideas, best practices or studies around UGC categorization. I believe subject experts are able to categorize content relatively easily, but what about novice users?

Are you asking more along of the lines of how to optimize UGC? or Are you asking in terms of categorization of UCG through key words?

Have you looked into using Meta Tags?
Meta Tags are used in HTML to influence the description of your page in search engines. This will also allow your article to rank higher on search engines through key words. The Meta Tags are placed in the HEAD section of your HTML. Here is an article that might give you some good tips.
