How do I connect a CRM to the outside world?

The CRM shows who we know. Is there a way to connect the CRM to someone who we do not know. For Example. We would like to speak with the CTO at Home Depot, we currently have no contacts at Home Depot. What we have found through a very lengthy and tedious process, that a former employee is on the board of a university with the COO of Home Depot who then made an introduction to the CTO. Is there a vendor that provides this service?

Jack,

Very interesting question. I think I understand what youre saying, but let me reiterate to make sure:

Essentially, you have identified a lead and added him to your CRM (Home Depot CTO). The question seems to be, "how do you "mine" the social relationships of the other entities in your network who might have an existing relationship with this person" - is that correct?

If so, there are Social CRM tools that should help you mine this information. Integration with LinkedIn would absolutely provide a "degree of separation" factor between you and this person.

If you'd like to discuss further feel free to message me.

Scott,

To be clear on my question. Home Depot was the target, we had no direct relationship with anyone at Home Depot, and the internal email went out asking does anyone know somebody at Home Depot and of course the email went unanswered. LinkedIn really didnt help, because anyone who we wanted to speak to(C-Level, Board) was not in there and I have found that these senior level people who may be in LinkedIn have no interest in being contacted. I find LinkedIn to be more about people looking for jobs. We did this manually, by building relationship maps of people and connecting the dots, extremely tedious and time consuming. In our research we came across a company called BoardEx that does exactly what we were trying to do. You tell BoardEx who you know and point this list at any person or company and they map the connections. While we uncovered one good connection manually, BoardEx showed us several. What took us almost 2.5 weeks to do, was done in seconds with them. Have you heard of them?

Reagrds,

Jack
