How do I develop an effective talent management strategy?

I don't know where to start when creating my company's talent management strategies. What do I need to do first? What key tasks do I need to consider?

Hello, There are plenty of vendors out there who can provide a technology solution however a key step before any deployment is to understand what processes are important and also take stock of where you are today by comparing best practice i.e. define your strategy. To this end we worked with Bersin (a leading talent management analyst ) and developed a free online tool which I hope you will find useful. It can be accessed at: www.talentstrategyassessment.com it has 19 questions and generates a traffic light scorecard as well as a more indepth narrative report highlighting key talent processes and best practice and how your organisation currently benchmarks. I hope it proves to be a good starting point for you. Warm regards Rob.

Hi Jane,

You'd be smart to check out a talent management software package, many of which are priced for small businesses (see http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fsb/0807/gallery.talent_management.fsb/in... for a list of solutions and prices). Many of these products include pre-populated templates for assessing performance and managing your employees' career paths - features that will save you loads of time and money.

Another solution to check out is Softscape Apex http://softscape.com/us/pd_overview.htm , it's a great all-in-one solution.
