How do I implement business process management?

I've heard BPM improves efficiency in an organization. But I'm not sure how to implement it in my business. Where do I start? Who's in charge?

Hi Mike, I suggest that you locate the key BUSINESS decision points within your operation (start by looking at strategy/policy). This is where you create value. Then build out to the processes that support this decision making. Any other approach will have you focus on processes that are candidates for reengineering and inefficient processes can be VERY expensive. The decision centric approach causes you to look for the most efficient sources of data (eg direct from customer systems for instance) rather than on replicating yesterdays old processes.
