Plain and simple, increase your volume of traffic to the site.

This is a very important factor to consider when trying to attract advertisements. Bigger companies usually won't advertise banners on your site unless you hit a certain volume of traffic, so there are a few ways to go about this. Start getting involved in social media networks and start pushing your brand awareness. The best way to push brand awareness is to create profiles on Twitter, Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon, and MySpace just to name a few. These are all great examples of social networking sites and they all rank high on Alexa's traffic rankings. They will help advertise your site and will increase your volume of traffic if done the right way. You can find guides by doing a google search for "successful social networking".

Another way to draw attention to your site is to join banner ad networks. These networks will keep track of your earnings, and control banner ad placements on your site. However, the downfall to this is they require a high percentage of your profits from the banner ads, so you can either put in work yourself or pay a fee to have someone else put in work.

Definitely increase your volume to the site. Anyone who is paying for banner advertisements wants to make sure they are seen by the most people possible. Do this by increasing your brand awareness. Focus on social media sites and building relationships with clients and potential clients. You want to focus on authentic conversations. People see through those who are in the community just to sell their services to them so make sure you're there to build relationships.

Second, think of companies that would truly benefit from having a banner on your website. Then target those types of companies. You have to know the type of people you are attracting to the site and what they are looking for. Begin building relationships with contacts within the companies you'd like to have advertise on your site. Develop a presentation or quick elevator style speech of how those companies can benefit from advertising on your site.
