How do you gather contacts for an email newsletter?

I own a nutrition clinic and several of my clients have requested a monthly email newsletter. I have a small list built up from those requests, but how else can I gather contacts for a newsletter? Would it be too difficult to include a "sign up" button on my website? What other ideas do you have? Thank you for your thoughts.

A button on your site is a good idea, but you probably need more than that, i.e. visitors need a reason to sign up for the newsletter.

So you probably need to grab the reader's attention with some interesting content on the site and tell them they can get regular updates on this and other topics by signing up to the newsletter - just hit this button etc.

Hope that helps!

A button is a good idea, but do you also go to Chamber of Commerce events or public events related to your industry or line of business? You can collect cards/email addresses from people for your newsletter by offering a prize or some incentive, like a consultation. Also, make the newsletter available on your site with a button people can click to sign up for it to be sent to them direct. If you do offer that, you may want to have the email go out a few days ahead of posting it on your site, just to give those who subscribe a sense that they are getting the news first. Also, you can encourage readers to forward your newsletter to people that might be interested in your products or services. Make sure you have a link in it so they can sign up for a monthly subscription. There are other things you can do, but these will give you a couple of starting points.

You can if your content is GOOD run a promotion for signups. Signup here and one random person will win "X" and if you refer somebody you will receive two chances to win "X".

Then when they sign up they get to play an online interactive game.
