How do you get wireless broadband with Ubuntu?

As you may have seen from my post, "Is it time to dump Windows?" I am in the process of switching to Ubuntu. Biggest hurdle may be the lack of support from Verizon for 3G. Should I just switch to the Sprint wireless 3G hub? More equipment to lug around but has other advantages such as providing back up access for the other computers in the office when ATT Uverse goes down, as it so frequently does. :-(

I got one response on Twitter that assured me the Sprint route is a good one.
