Do you really need to use remote servers managed by someone else in another country where the set up is questionable, you never met the employees and don't really know who has access to your data?
"Cloud computing" is marketing hype, but I'll give them credit for its success.
As for keeping up with it - keep up with what? Using current jargon, this very website is hosted "in the cloud", and as a consequence, so too has every other server on the internet since the beginning of the 'net itself.
If looking for a single resource without a particular specialization, I highly recommend this website
